Calling it a “clear case of terrorism”, Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh on Monday said an investigation into the grenade attack on the Nirankari sect congregation at Adliwala village, which claimed three lives, is underway and assured that the culprits would be nabbed soon.

“An investigation is underway. There are some leads which our police is following up. I am hopeful that we will soon catch the culprits. This is a clear case of terrorism and we will deal with it,” Singh said while addressing the media after visiting the site earlier in the day.

Responding to a query on whether there was any security lapse, CM Singh said, “There was no security lapse. We cannot question every passerby. It is a clear case of terror.”

Asked about the role of ISI-backed groups, the CM said, “Earlier, an announcement was made that some Jaish-e-Mohammad terrorists are reportedly in Punjab. We are on high alert.”

On Sunday, Singh had said that the “possibility of involvement of ISI-backed Khalistani/ Kashmiri terror groups could not be ruled out”. In a statement issued hours after the incident, Singh had said that preliminary investigations revealed that two men who had covered their faces — one had a beard — forced their way into the Nirankari Bhavan by waving a pistol. They detained the sewadar, lobbed the grenade into the prayer room, and fled on a motorcycle.

Earlier today, the CM had announced a reward of Rs 50 lakh for any information leading to the arrest of the suspects involved in the blast. A compensation of Rs five lakh has been announced each to the kin of the deceased and Rs 50,000 for the injured.
