Lucknow: Choked drains were cleaned, roads were swept near Jhandi Wala Park at Lalbagh, on Sunday morning, minutes before the 'Swachhta Maharally' was organised by the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC). More than 500 students from various educational institutions of the city participated in the rally.

The main motive behind this rally was to make the city rank first in the Swachh Bharat Mission 2019. Cabinet minister of Urban Development. Suresh Khanna, who flagged off the rally, said, "Our main objective is to make the city top-ranked in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan."

However, residents of Lalbagh told TOI that the trash that was not cleared for the last three days from their locality was cleared on Sunday. Rashmi Shukla a resident of Lalbagh said, "These garbage zones were not cleared for past three days, but because the VIPs had to come on Sunday, the LMC cleared all the trash from this dump zone."
