Baby girl dies on Surfers Paradise beach
A baby girl is dead after being found near the shoreline on a beach at Surfers Paradise on Queensland's Gold Coast.
Emergency workers were called to the scene near Staghorn Avenue, the Esplanade, about 12.30am on Monday after a member of the public found the child.
They performed CPR but were unable to revive her.
A crime scene has been set up and detectives are trying to identify the child, the cause of death and how she came to be on the beach.
Surfers Paradise has been bustling with teenagers, as thousands of school-leavers began their celebrations on the Gold Coast on Saturday.
Drug charges have been laid before and during schoolies week, which enters day three on Monday.
Six teenagers have been arrested on nine charges, with most arrests relating to drug possession.
Emergency services across Queensland have also been on alert during schoolies week, with one teenager being airlifted to hospital after being caught in a rip on the Sunshine Coast on Saturday.
