Hyderabad: Leakage from the BSNL office led to the formation of a sinkhole near NTR Stadium in Lower Tank Bund. The sinkhole led to many vehicles in the area to divert and re-rout which caused severe traffic jam.
The police had barricaded the area to avoid any accidents, which again, added to the woes of the commuters. The situation was made even worse due to more people using the road to attend a religious programme being hosted by a regional channel.
According GHMC officials, the road will be repaired by Monday night. "The road has already seen plenty of damage, we are ensuring the water from the leak (from the BSNL office) is disposed into a nearby nala. The work will be completed by Monday night as the RCC wall of chamber has to be demolished. If the road is not restored then then the complete stretch will be damaged," said K Namya, a GHMC executive engineer.
Activistist have demanded that the authorities must take action to avoid such incidents in the future. "If a vehicle was on the stretch where the road sink appeared, there could have been an accident. Engineering experts should be roped in and vulnerable points in the city should be marked out and repairs should be carried out on the same, " said P M Sai Prasad, an RTI activist from the city.
