Cyclone Gaja: Tangedco extends deadline for paying power bills in eight districts

CHENNAI: The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (Tangedco) on Monday announced that all consumers in cyclone Gaja-affected districts can pay their power bills till November 30 without fine.
The original deadline was November 25. Tangedco extended the deadline by five days for consumers in Nagapattinam, Tiruvarur, Thanjavur, Pudukkottai, Ramanathapuram, Dindigul, Theni and Sivagana districts.
Meanwhile, power minister P Thangamani told reporters that it would take at least one more week for electricity to be restored in rural areas of the cyclone-affected districts.
He said, “Tangedco employees are working continuously. However, there are still some areas where it is not possible for them to reach because of fallen trees.”
