Assam veggies exported to UAE

Vegetables sourced from various districts of have been directly exported to the markets of UAE including its capital Dubai, for the first time from the northeast, an official release said Monday.

The first consignment of around 810 kg of vegetables including pointed gourd, green seem, black seem, turnip, cucumber, brinjal, lemon etc. were sent by an cargo plane.

"For the first time in the history of northeastern region, this facility has been started having direct export mode via air cargo," (NER) Regional Executive said in a release.

The Customs-EDI (electronic data interchange) clearance has been done at the Guwahati Airport, it said.

The facility is available round-the-clock at the cargo station, it added.

Sonar Bangla, a Kolkata-based export company, and a local exporter Kiega Exim Private Limited, Guwahati collaborated to send the consignment, it said.

In October this year, flat beans, brinjal and radish sourced from were sent to and through Air Cargo.
