Melbourne ranks one for sustainability in Asia Pacific

It has moved up by five spots and now holds the number eight position in the world overall. It is among the top ten cities worldwide to offer the best practice sustainability along with maintaining the top spot in Australia.

 

 

The sustainable growth of international meeting destinations is gauged by the GDS-Index. It reveals the best practices and responsible business tourism, bringing cities together to improve on the social and environment performance of the cities and the business events industry.

 

 

Considering the  city environmental performance, social performance, industry supplier support and MCB strategy and initiatives the Melbourne and Melbourne Convention Bureau’s (MCB) sustainbilty was evaluated.

 

 

 

Melbourne scored 81  per cent in the category of supplier performance and this was followed by  convention bureau performance, with 80 per cent.

 

 

 

MCB CEO, Karen Bolinger, commented that MCB has worked hard in partnership with the City of Melbourne to promote the value of sustainable practices for Melbourne’s business events industry.

 

 

Making Melbourne a sustainable destination for international business events is a key goal for MCB. They recognise that many clients want to host events in-line with recognised sustainability standards and they have enlisted a team of sustainability champions to inspire all their industry stakeholders to take action.

 

 

 

MCB’s sustainability goals is focused on driving initiatives across the business events industry which is supported by the provision of a meeting planners tool kit that will influence development and improvement of sustainability initiatives.

 

 

City of Melbourne Lord Mayor, Sally Capp congratulated  their business events partner Melbourne Convention Bureau on their hard work in making our city number one in sustainable business events in the Asia-Pacific Region.

 

 

 

She said that adapting to make their city sustainable takes commitment from everyone – government, business, residents and visitors – and this can achieve it together with a combination of big moves and small steps.
