GUWAHATI: Delhi Public School (DPS), Guwahati recently held its annual day celebration at Srimanta Sankaradeva International Auditorium, with a host of eminent dignitaries being present on the occasion.

The highlights of the event, which was called 'Confluence', was a play based on sections from Shakespeare's 'The Merchant of Venice' and 'Sur Sagoror Mukuta Butoli', a comprehensive presentation on the musical life and works of legendary singer Bhupen Hazarika.

The programme concluded with a dance drama presentation by students of Classes III to V. The dance drama focussed on four major rivers of India - Brahmaputra, Ganga, Cauvery and Sindhu - and also their sources, the legends associated with them, and the cultures that have grown around them. The presentation also harped on the thoughtless and insensitive acts of human beings that pollute these rivers and destroy the environment.

Kamrup (Metro) deputy commissioner Virendra Mittal was the chief guest and the CBSE's Guwahati regional office director KK Choudhury the guest of honour on the occasion. Renowned singer Sudakshina Sarma, who is the younger sister of musical icon Bhupen Hazarika, was the special invitee.
