After Amritsar attacks, security beefed up in UT, Mohali

Chandigarh: After the blast at Sant Nirankari Bhawan in Amritsar, security was beefed up at the four Nirankari Bhawans in Chandigarh too. Extra police force and jawans from paramilitary forces have been deployed outside all bhawans.
UT police have also conducted search operations with bomb disposal teams and dog squads at prominent gurdwaras in the city on Sunday. Police also searched the bus stands at Sector 17, 43 and railway stations. They frisked the passengers travelling from Punjab.
DSP UT police Pawan Kumar said after the attack in Amritsar, UT police launched a special drive at crowded markets, shopping malls, prominent religious places, important institutes and government buildings in the city on Sunday. Extra police force deployed at the entry and exit points of city are checking vehicles for any suspicious activity. Cops are also checking the guest registers of hotels, ‘sarai’ and guest houses in the city.
Mohali also witnessed beefed up security following the attack. Mohali SSP Kuldeep Singh Chahal said instructions have been issued to all police station in-charges for setting up of police checkposts under the police station jurisdiction.
Chahal said, “We are chalking out the plans to carry out security arrangements in the district. At present instructions have been issued to all SHOs to set up checkpost in their areas especially during the night and also carry out the aggressive police patrolling on the streets. Instructions have also been issued to the PCRs to remain on roads throughout the night for patrolling instead of being stationed at their designated spots.”
