Two houses burgled in city, Rs 22 lakh gold jewellery stolen

CHENNAI: At least 82 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth 22 lakh was burgled from two locked houses in Ayanavaram and Villivakkam on Friday.
Police said, Arun Kumar, 38, of Agasthiar Street, owns a rice wholesale shop near his shop. Few days ago Arun and his wife gone to a marriage function.


When they returned on Friday evening, Arun's wife found gold jewellery was missing, said an investigation officer.


The couple lodged a complaint at the Villivakkam police station that someone had entered into the house during the day in their absence and decamped with at least 52 sovereigns of gold jewellery. The Villivakkam police registered a case.


In the second incident, Karthikeyan, 45, of Ayanavaram, owns a super market at Kellys. He and his wife returned home on Friday night after work and found the door of their house opened.


The found least 30 sovereigns of gold jewellery missing from the house. They registered at the Ayanavaram police station.
