KOLKATA: Health department officials of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, accompanied by the local residents’ association, conducted a fever survey at Salt Lake’s FE Block on Saturday. The authorities found mosquito larvae in two large vacant plots occupied by some shanty dwellers, who have been asked to move out within a fortnight.
The civic team, led by Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation MMiC (health) Pranay Roy, first visited the family of swine flu victim Mousumi Misra. “They have complaints against the hospital authorities. We will inform the health department about the matter,” Roy said. Local borough chairperson Anita Mandal and local councillor Nilanjana Manna accompanied the team.
The team later sprinkled bleaching powder in the locality and visited houses to check whether anybody was suffering from fever. “Till now, we have not found anybody here suffering from fever. However, we have discussed the matter with the block association and a day-long medical camp will be set up at the community hall on November 21,” Roy said.
Inspecting two vacant plots in the block, the team found found mosquito larvae in water containers. “There were used tyres, water containers and tubes where water had accumulated and we found mosquito larvae inside. The place has now been cleaned. The shanty dwellers occupying the plots have been asked to move out within 15 days,” said a civic official.
FE Block residents association secretary Basab Basak said, “Locals have been complaining for some time that the slum on the vacant plot inside lane No. five has become a nuisance.”
