Strongest action will be taken against perpetrators of Amritsar blast: Rajnath

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh has said that strongest possible action will be taken against the perpetrators of grenade attack in Amritsar.

In a tweet, Mr Singh said, he spoke to Punjab Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh who apprised him about the situation. He said, it is a reprehensible act of violence.

The Home Minister said, he is deeply anguished by the death of innocent people in the attack. He expressed his condolences to the families who have lost their loved ones in this attack and prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.

At least three people were killed and at least 20 injured in a blast at Nirankari Satsang Bhawan at Rajasansi in Amritsar district today.

According to reports, two armed men on a motorbike entered the Bhawan and hurled a bomb on the stage when the Satsang was in progress. The injured have been admitted to various hospitals of Amritsar.

Inspector General of Police S S Parmar,who visited the incident site, told media persons that about 200 devotees, including many women, were inside at the time of the incident.

DGP Suresh Arora said three people had died in the incident and 20 others were injured, two of them seriously.

According to Tribune some eyewitness accounts said two armed and masked persons, who were on a motorcycle, forced their way inside the Bhavan by pointing a gun at the person on duty at the gate.

“After they gained entry, they threw a grenade-like object at the congregation and escaped,” said an eyewitness.

A hunt is on to nab them, the IG said.

He said about 200 devotees were inside the hall at the time of the incident. No CCTV was installed on the premises, according to preliminary investigations.
