Five-year-old hospitalised after dog attack in Sydney's west

A five-year-old boy was taken to hospital after being attacked by a large neighbourhood dog in Sydney's west on Sunday afternoon.

Emergency services were called to Jocelyn Boulevard in Quakers Hill about 1pm, where they found the boy with bite wounds to his neck.

He was treated at the scene and taken to the Children's Hospital at Westmead in a stable condition, a NSW Ambulance spokesman said.

Two women who rushed to his aid were also treated at the scene for injuries that were not life-threatening, police said.

Footage showed a woman with multiple bandages on her right arm walking hand-in-hand with the injured boy to an ambulance, their shirts bloodied.

Animal Holding Facility (AHF) rangers arrived to collect the large black and white dog from a residential property.

Two NSW Police officers, a ranger, and the dog's owner struggled to restrain the hound, who, upon seeing officers, bucked and tugged against an animal control poll.

Once the dog was in the AHF van, its owner pressed her face against the window and sobbed the words "I love you", before walking tearfully back to the house.

Officer from Quakers Hill Police Area Command are at the scene and have commenced inquiries.
