Lays foundation stone for eastern waterfront at Mazgaon

Mumbaikars may soon have a light and sound show that will showcase the history of the city at the recently renovated domestic cruise terminal at Princess dock in Mazgaon. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari made the announcement after he laid the foundation stone for the eastern waterfront on Saturday.

The one-km-long waterfront is being developed by the Mumbai Port Trust (MbPT) and planned as the city’s new water transport and tourism hub. Mr. Gadkari said, “We are expecting dollar revenue worth ₹30,000 crore from international tourists in Mumbai.”

He said waterways had a lot of potential in the city and the country. He said, “Soon we plan to connect the city with the new airport in Navi Mumbai through waterways. I have also suggested that they have a light and sound show at domestic cruise terminal that will showcase Mumbai’ history.”

Tenders floated

The Minister also floated tenders for a ropeway from Sewri to Elephanta Island and a 600-bed multi-speciality hospital, which will come up in the vicinity. “This hospital is for the poor citizens of Mumbai. The hospital will also be for retired employees of MbPT,” Mr. Gadkari said.

He also inaugurated two new floatel restaurants which will be operational from Monday. The floatels — Queensline Sea YAH and Queensline Neverland — will be anchored about a kilometre away from the Gateway of India. MbPT chairman Sanjay Bhatia said the eastern waterfront would be ready in six months.
