A bunch of Australian lifeguards were in for a shock when a snake slithered toward them. 

The group of men and women were relaxing beside a building during their daily patrol when the snake approached.

'Australian beaches...if sharks don't get you snakes will,' the original poster wrote on the Reddit forum.

It comes after a slew of shark attacks off the coast of Australia.

On Friday, a surfer had a terrifyingly close encounter with a four-metre shark at Bondi Beach, it has been claimed.

Bondi local, Mick Malouf, 45, was swimming toward a wave on Thursday when another surfer, Beau Walker, noticed a monster shark behind him. 

Less than 24 hours before the close-call at Bondi beach, a man was rescued after a 4.5 metre tiger shark knocked him out of his kayak and tried to bite him.

The kayaker was about 1.5 kilometres from Moffat Beach, near Caloundra on the Sunshine Coast, when he was attacked on Thursday morning.

The shark bit into his kayak, causing it to partially deflate as he sank into the water.

While it is hard to determine what type of snake it is from the single photo, dozens of social media users took to the platform to share their theories.

One person was adamant the slithering serpent was a brown snake, but was promptly disagreed with, as another person argued that it was 'more likely a tiger snake. They hang around these area's more than brown [snakes].' 

Another thought it was most likely a coastal taipan. 

The lifeguards look relatively unconcerned despite their close proximity to the snake.

The laid-back approach of those on duty seemed to shock some people. 

'How anyone stays alive in Aus. Geez, you are all a hard breed,' a user wrote.
