The Gujarat government on Saturday announced a special relief package of ₹1,300 crore for approximately 20 lakh farmers in 45 talukas which received less than 400 mm rain in the current year. These talukas have been declared scarcity-hit.
Deputy Chief Minister Nitin Patel said the government was committed to helping the farmers in 16 districts where rainfall has been less than normal.
In 14 talukas with rainfall between 250 mm and 300 mm, each farmer will get ₹6,300 ad hoc assistance per hectare.
In 12 talukas with rainfall between 300 and 350 mm, the ad hoc assistance amount is ₹5,800 per hectare and in 19 talukas with rainfall between 350 and 400 mm, the amount will be ₹5,300 per hectare.
Earlier, the government had declared 54 talukas scarcity-hit and special package of ₹5,100 crore was announced for farmers and cattle breeders. “So far, we have announced two packages with ₹6,400 crore special assistance,” Mr. Patel said.
The State has also formed a Ministerial committee to review the situation in the rain deficient districts
