A day after the district administration launched the ‘government land identification exercise’ for the proposed upgrade of Brindavan Gardens, residents of nearby areas on Friday said they were not ready to give up their land.

The State government has resorted to develop the Brindavan Gardens, downstream of Krishnaraja Sagar (KRS), on the lines of Disneyland in the U.S. at a cost of at least ₹1,200 crore. The proposed project demands nearly 400 acres of land.

Subsequent to reports on the project, residents of Hongahalli and Chikkayarahalli villages attached to the reservoir, on Friday held meetings where they announced their stand of fighting against the land acquisition [if any] with unity. The farmers said they were not against the project, but only against giving up their land for any tourism-related permanent projects.

Meanwhile, N. Manjushri, Deputy Commissioner, on Friday inspected government land and areas at different places attached to the proposed project. She was accompanied by officials of Cauvery Neeravari Nigam Ltd. (CNNL) and Tourism and Revenue Departments.
