LUDHIANA: The police arrested two drug peddlers, including a Tanzanian student, after heroin was recovered from their possession in Khanna on Friday.
The two have been identified as Daniel Lukks Mitwewe, 24, of Tanzania and Gaurav Kumar, 22, of Ambala.
SP (headquarters) Balwinder Singh Bhikhi said, “At a check-post near Libra village on GT Road, a Maruti Suzuki Dzire car (HR01Y-5709) coming from Khanna side was signalled to stop. But instead it tried to speed away. The car was chased and intercepted.”
During checking, 45 grams of heroin was recovered from the possession of Daniel, a third-year student of diploma in medical laboratory technology at Mullana University. Following the recovery, Daniel and Gaurav, a driver, were arrested under the NDPS Act, the SP added.
Police said during questioning, Daniel revealed that the consignment was to be supplied to international students at a private university near Phagwara. “Gaurav knew that Daniel was a drug peddler, but still he was driving him to Phagwara. It is suspected that Daniel procured the consignment from a Nigerian in Delhi,” a cop said.
