CHARMINAR: When dozens of students attend their convocation at the Harmain Sharifain Arabic English Islamic Model University in Tarnaka on Saturday, many of them will be proficient in three languages.
Addressing a media conference, vice chancellor Prof Mohammed Jahangir said, “the university is a first of its kind seminary where students can not only memorise Quran and Hadees within a span of 11 months but also become experts in three languages, English, Urdu and Arabic.”
Eminent personalities from Kuwait, Oman and Iraq will be guests of honour in the convocation, while about a hundred students from different faculties will be awarded degrees.
“Arabic is the fifth most spoken language of the world with nearly 422 million people speaking it, across Arab countries and the Arab diaspora in non-Arab countries,” Jahangir said. Many Indians too have good command over the language, he added.
He said the university alumni is doing wonders around the world with great command over English and Arabic, thus making them more efficient at work.
“In a first of its kind for any Arabic or Islamic university, the varsity is preparing to introduce tailor-made courses to teach Sanskrit in addition to Hindi and Persian from the forthcoming academic year. By far, it will be the first Islamic institution to offer a course in Sanskrit,” Jahangir added.
He said the university will introduce a 11-month course in Tasawwuf (Islamic mysticism). Jahangir claimed, “the university has gained popularity around the world for its unique curriculum. Scholars from the highly revered Al Azhar University of Cairo also acknowledged the importance of our courses.”
