TWO MEN were caught for robbing 10 gold rings and one gold chain at gunpoint from a jewellery shop, DC Jewellers, at Ekta Market in Burail, Sector 45, on Friday night.

One of the robbers jumped from the second floor on the ground floor but was nabbed. The two were identified as Raju, 20, and Rahul, 22, residents of Burail village.

The incident took place around 8 pm. Later, a dummy pistol, all robbed jewellery items along with a knife were recovered from the accused.

The accused had visited the jewellery shop on Thursday in the disguise of customers and selected a few items.
Jeweller Chetan Sharma, owner of the DC Jewellers, said, “I, along with my daughter Shaifali and helper Ankit, was sitting inside the shop when one men entered the shop and told me to show them gold rings and gold chain, which he selected for purchasing on Thursday. His accomplice was standing on the road. I placed the tray of gold rings and a gold chain on the table before the man. Subsequently, the man pulled out a pistol and picked the tray of jewellery ornaments and threatened to shoot us if we raised the alarm. He ran away. I raised the alarm and also tried to chase him.”

Roshan Ali, president of Ekta Market, told Chandigarh Newsline, “Mohit, a shopkeeper, along with other men ran behind both the men, who raced towards Civil Hospital, Sector 45. Mohit caught one of the accused near the hospital. The accused hit him with an iron rod but Ankit did not leave him. Another robber entered a triple-storey building and jumped from the second floor. He suffered minor injuries. In the meantime, police personnel rushed to the spot. The pistol turned out to be dummy, meant to light fires. All robbed items were recovered from them.”
