- The Project host Waleed Aly's older brother Ahmad is a gastrointestinal surgeon
- He appeared on Cancer Council Victoria ad which aired on Network Ten show

Waleed Aly has jokingly been panned as an 'under-achiever' by his wife after his surgeon brother appeared on The Project.
Dr Susan Carland, who now hosts her own program on SBS, gently mocked her TV husband after his older sibling Dr Ahmad Aly appeared during the ad break.

'Here's my brother-in-law, Ahmad who's a surgeon, on an ad discussing link between sugar and cancer (airing during ad break funnily enough),' Dr Carland tweeted this week.
'As you can see, Waleed is the under-achiever of his family.'
While Waleed Aly, who this year turned 40, has won a Gold Logie for hosting The Project on Network Ten, his brother has taken on a more noble profession.
Ahmad Aly, who is a decade older, works as a surgeon at Melbourne's Austin Hospital, at Heidelberg in the city's north, and at the nearby Warringal Private Hospital, along with running his own private practice.

In a 30-second ad for Cancer Council Victoria, he explained the link between having too many sugary drinks and getting bowel cancer.
'Sugar not only ads to the unhealthy weight you can see, but far worse is this toxic fat that you can't see,' he said, wearing a surgical cap in the operating theatre.
'Cancer cells love it. Toxic fat can trigger 13 types of cancer, including bowel, breast and oesophagus.
'There are clear links between being above a healthy weight and cancer.'
Ahmad Waleed called on Australians to avoid sugary drinks to prevent getting cancer.

Dr Carland, a Muslim convert who hosts Child Genius on SBS, has recently revealed she turned down her husband when he asked her out, when she was 16.
'I wouldn’t marry you if you were the last person on Earth,' the academic and author told him.
The couple have been happily married for 16 years and have two children, daughter Aisha, 15, and son Zayd, 11.
Waleed Aly, who was born in Melbourne to Egyptian parents, previously worked as a lawyer and as the spokesman for the Islamic Council of Victoria.
He won a Gold Logie in 2016 and has been a finalist for a prestigious Walkley award for journalism.
