Trinamool Congress’s Birbhum president Anubrata Mondal on Thursday said the party would take out its own ‘Kirtan rally’ to counter the BJP’s proposed rath yatras in the state, even as a war of words continued between the two parties over the issue.
On Wednesday, state BJP president Dilip Ghosh had hit out at Mondal, saying, “There is this TMC leader Anubrata Mondal who is famous for saying big things. Apne ghar mein toh kutta bhi sher hota hai. Once outside his home ground, he will run away,” Ghosh told party workers at a meeting in Birbhum.
State BJP general secretary Sayantan Basu too targeted the TMC, asking his party workers to carry bamboos and rods while entering Birbhum. “Take some bamboos and rods with you when you visit Birbhum. You have to carry these things because you will have to dig up graves there,” Basu said at the same meeting.
Responding to Ghosh on Thursday, Mondal said, “If my party supremo Mamata Banerjee allows me, then I will enter his constituency (Kharagpur) like a tiger. I have the courage to do so as we have carried out development work and the people are with us.”
BJP national president Amit Shah will take out one of three proposed rath yatras in the state from Tarapith in Birbhum. The BJP has started making preparations for the rally and has been holding rallies in the district. The TMC, however, has maintained that the rally will not be successful.
“This will be an end of the BJP, therefore, they are taking out such a rath yatra. To ensure that it signifies the end of BJP, we will take out a Kirtan rally before their rath yatra. Just like people chant the name of Hari before the death of a person. This Kirtan rally will mark the end of BJP in West Bengal,” said the Birbhum TMC president.
