A man's body has tragically been found washed up on a beach.

The grisly discovery was made just after 9.30pm on Friday at a beach at Glenelg North in Adelaide, The Advertiser reported.

The cause of death of the man remains unknown, as does his age and identity.

Detectives and forensic services were seen searching the stretch of beach where the body was discovered.

One police officer was spotted holding a fishing rod which was taken to a police car.

Investigators were also seen knocking on the doors of nearby homes at the beach.

Investigations are ongoing.

Glenelg North is a seaside suburb of Adelaide in South Australia.
