Differently abled and senior citizens bear the brunt

The newly introduced queue system for meeting officials at the Town Planning Office at the Kozhikode Municipal Corporation office is causing hardship to the differently abled and senior citizens. Many of them say the queue is a time-consuming affair, and that it hardly serves the purpose of improving administrative efficiency.

Though visitors are permitted to meet officials at the office on all working days between 3 p.m and 5 p.m, waiting in the long queue and filling the guest book with details of files are a big hassle, they say. A separate queue for the elderly and differently-abled will make things easier, they point out. According to them, the absence of some officers during visitors’ time and non-cooperation by some section clerks are also making the office unfriendly.

A section of Licensed Building Supervisors too has opposed the “inflexible queue system”, alleging that it is an attempt to cover up the flaws of some officials who were suspected of colluding with middlemen for fast-tracking files. Only the Town Planning Department has such a strange queue system at the corporation office, they contend.
