Accused consumed poison after the incident, critical, say police

A 42-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries after a man allegedly hit with a grindstone on Wednesday, the police said on Thursday.

The 63-year-old accused, Dharamveer, who later consumed poison is said to be critical, they said.

The accused, a resident of Sakipur village, hit the victim, Annopwati, from Kanarsa village, during a brawl on Wednesday evening. She worked as a domestic help in Sector Beta 1 while Dharamveer works at a nearby departmental store, the police said, adding that they were neighbours.

The victim’s son, Ravi Kumar, said his mother had moved to Kanarsa village a few months ago but she wanted to go back to Sector Beta 1 to pick her jewellery.

“We reached the house at around 2 p.m. I had gone to get food. I came back and saw Dharmveer arguing with my mother. Suddenly he hit her with a grindstone and she fell on the ground,” said Kumar.

The victim was rushed to Sharda Hospital where she succumbed to injuries after few hours. Circle Officer 1 Nishank Sharma said Dharamveer has been referred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

Statement awaited

He added that Dharamveer is admitted in the ICU and his statement will be recorded soon after his condition gets better.

Case registered

Meanwhile, a case has been registered against the accused under Sections 302 (murder), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 504 (whoever intentionally insults) of the Indian Penal Code, the police said.
