Rajnath Singh promises pothole free roads in Mizoram if BJP comes to power
Naresh Mitra | TNN | Updated: Nov 16, 2018, 20:18 ISTAIZAWL: Union home minister Rajnath Singh on Friday said Mizoram's roads will be free of potholes once BJP comes to power in the state. He said the state will see drastic improvement in road conditions within six months of BJP coming to power.
Addressing three election rallies in the Bru inhabited areas in Mamit in the western part of the state, Singh said the condition of roads under the present Congress government has deteriorated to such an extent that one cannot identify between roads and potholes.
"It is difficult to find whether roads are in potholes or potholes are in roads. Such is the condition of roads in Mizoram," Singh said.
He said that Prime minister Narendra Modi has signed an agreement with Japan to improve the road connectivity in the Northeast.
Singh said that Modi'is thrust is on improving connectivity in the Northeast either through roads, or be it through railways and airways.
"We will make Mizoram's roads free of potholes in six months if we are voted to power," Singh said.
He added, "We have to oust Congress from power to usher in development."
Bad road condition is one of the election issues in the hilly state that goes to polls on November 28.
AICC general secretary Luizinho Faleiro blamed the Centre for reducing grants for road development in the state.
Faleiro said central funds were not adequately made available for road development in Mizoram.
