MUZAFFARPUR: A five-member team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday visited two police stations and government offices in Muzaffarpur to gather information about jailed Maoist sub-zonal commander Anil Ram.
Anil, who was operating in Muzaffarpur and Vaishali districts, and was an accused in 12 cases, was arrested by the special task force (STF) from Patna with his three other accomplices in March this year. The STF had recovered Rs 8 lakh apart from some incriminating documents from his possession.
The case was later handed over to NIA and this is the second visit of the team after an FIR was lodged with the NIA police station in Delhi on April 14.
The NIA team first reached Muzaffarpur Sadar police station as Anil was arrested from Sir Ganesh Dutt Nagar under the same police station.
The team sought details of assets of Anil Ram and his family members from the local police officials. Later, they visited the district transport office to inquire about the owner of bikes recovered from Ram’s house during the raid in March. They took away both the bikes with them to Patna. They also visited the district land registration office and sought details of Ram’s property from the sub-registrar of land and revenue department.
Officials, however, refused to respond to queries made by this reporter about the visit of NIA team. The NIA team leader also refused to divulge any details saying they were not authorised to brief media persons.
Meanwhile, sources in the land and revenue department, on the condition of anonymity said the NIA team had visited the office on Thursday and Friday. “They showed some documents of land registration and asked the details about it.”
