PATNA: An ‘anti-hijacking mock drill’ was jointly conducted by the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Bihar Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) at Jayaprakash Narayan International (JPNI) Airport here on Friday.
Officials of air traffic control office at the airport, airlines executives and those from Bihar Flying Institute also participated in the exercise.
JPNI director Rajender Singh Lahauria said a hypothetical hijack situation was created in which a bus was considered as a dummy aircraft carrying around 40 passengers.
“The aircraft was forced to land at Patna and the hijackers demanded $50,000 and release of their three associates from a Kolkata jail. Within a few minutes, around 70 jawans and personnel of different security agencies, including CISF and ATS, swung into action and all hostages were safely rescued in an operation that lasted for two hours,” Lahauria said.
He added the drill was aimed at accessing the preparedness of security agencies in tackling such emergency situations at the airport.
