The Central Goods and Service Tax (CGST) Department began action against tax-evaders as two units of a manufacturing company came under its radar on Wednesday and the action continued till Thursday. After the raid, the team detected tax evasion to the tune of Rs 1 crore.
Though the Goods and Service Tax (GST) was launched on July 1, 2017, the CGST department did not carry out any action against tax evading units. But, after 16 months, the department started taking action against errant units which generated fake invoices and showed fake turnover amount.
A preventive team of the department, on the instruction of CGST Commissioner Neerav Kumar Malick, started taking action against two units of Sameer Industries located in Dewas and Sanwer Road industrial area. These units are engaged in manufacturing Lead Oxide and Lead ingots.
Official sources said during the action, they found that the company was issuing fake invoices and through this it is showing less GST. More than Rs 1 crore of tax evasion was revealed. When this correspondent tried to contact Virendra Jain, Deputy Commissioner of Preventive Wing of the CGST department, he could not be available for comment.
