Chennai:
Pointing out that the members of the Arappor Iyakkam had raised the issue that the Corporation was involved in floating tenders to benefit contractors to a tune of Rs 740 crore, there is also the involvement of senior corporation official into these alleged scams, he said. The irony is that most of the projects deal with the public livelihood and if not executed properly can pose threat to human lives. Particularly the construction of stormwater drains ahead of monsoon is essential to ensure public safety, Dhinakaran noted. He also slammed the Local Administration Minister and blamed Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami of being silent on these corruption charges.
It may be noted that the members of Arappor Iyakkam on Wednesday met the Corporation Commissioner D Karthikeyan with a memorandum demanding cancellation of tenders alleging cartelization of contractors. Karthikeyan had debunked the allegations as baseless.
