MADURAI: Police have launched a hunt for three men who duped a 62-year-old woman of her eight sovereigns gold jewellery by posing as policemen at Andalpuram in Madurai on Thursday.
The trio intercepted the woman, T Panjavarnam, when she was walking on the TPK Road in Andalpuram. They told her that chain snatchers were on the loose in the neighbourhood and asked her to be wary.
One of them asked her to remove her gold chain and earrings and offered to wrap them in a paper and give it to her. Believing his words, the woman gave her gold jewellery to the man and it was wrapped in a piece of paper.
However, the gang replaced the jewellery with stones. The woman realised this only after reaching home.
The Subramaniapuram police registered a case and launched a hunt for the trio.
