Complaint was lodged by a member of Hindu Jagran Manch in Uttar Pradesh

The admin of a WhatsApp group was arrested for allegedly circulating “anti-national” messages on the social media, Baghpat police said on Thursday.

Following a complaint, an FIR was lodged into the matter and the accused, identified as Naeem, was arrested.

The police said he was arrested after receiving a complaint from Hindu Jagran Manch’s Dipak Kumar of Bamnauli village in Baraut district. The police said that Mr. Kumar’s complaint stated that a WhatsApp group named ‘Josh’ was circulating objectionable “anti-national” messages leading to inciting the local group members.

Defaming country

‘Naeem runs ‘Jan Sewa Kendra’ (common services centre) in his village.

The police said the accused had added some Pakistani contacts and was defaming the Indian flag and country.

His anti-national posts triggered tension in the area, however, the police were swift to take action to avoid any untoward incident.

Station Officer Chitwan Kumar said the accused has been booked under various sections of IPC and IT Acts. The accused’s mobile phone has also been confiscated.

There were at least 110 members in the group. The police are identifying the group members and thoroughly examining the posts. Other members will face action if found guilty, the police said.
