GURUGRAM: To spread awareness on road safety, the state government in collaboration with MG Motor India and Trax, a non-governmental organisation, has planned to educate 3 lakh students across 200 schools in Gurugram and Faridabad.
Focussing primarily on government schools, the initiative entitled ‘Road Safety and Juniors Programme’ began on Wednesday and the authorities plan to cover all 200 schools over the next one year.
Supporting the initiative, senior officials and dignitaries from various government departments, including transport, roads and police attended the event held at the Senior Government Senior Secondary School in Chakkarpur on Wednesday. Addressing 1,900 students who attended the programme, additional chief secretary of the transport department Dhanpat Singh said, “Road safety is the need of the hour. Children, who are India’s future, need to be educated about road safety mannerisms so that they can inculcate the same habits among their peers and parents, to ensure a better tomorrow.”
