PATIALA: Breakthrough in the Rs 50-lakh robbery at the State Bank of India (SBI) branch in Nabha town of Patiala in just four hours led the police to solve three other major robberies in Patiala and Sangrur.

Jagdev Singh alias Taari (35) and Amanjit Singh Guri (37) confessed to have committed the February 1, 2014, robbery in which they had killed security guard and decamped with Rs 37 lakh from SBI's ATM kiosk at Nabha and the May 14 robbery this year in which they looted Rs 9 lakh from an IDBI ATM kiosk in Sangrur.

On July 13 this year in the accused looted Rs 5 lakh from a cash van after shooting at its guard near Sangrur. Senior superintendent of police MS Sidhu said the accused used the same modus-operandi to execute the three robberies.

"They would first open fire at security guard to create panic and then get their hands on the cash and flee. They picked up the crime spot carefully," police said.
