RAJKOT: The craze for selfies has snuffed out lives two more youngsters in the state. Twenty-year-old cousin brothers studying in a Government Polytechnic College in Bhavnagar drowned in Bor Talav while taking selfies on Thursday.
The cousins - Vishwarajsinh Gohel and Harvijaysinh Gohel - had started from their house for tuition classes, but they went to the lake at around 8:30am. While taking selfies and photographs, they slipped and fell into the lake. The water was around 20 feet deep and they got trapped in the quagmire.
While Harvijaysinh was the student of diploma engineering, Vishwarajsinh was studying in Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in the same college.
The security guard at the lake had seen the boys taking photographs and selfies. When he reached his office, someone raised an alarm about the two boys falling in the lake. The guard immediately called the fire brigade.
"As none of them knew how to swim, both drowned in the lake. It took about an hour to fish out their bodies as they were stuck in the muck," said S P Agrawat, lady police sub-inspector, Bor Talav police station.
Vishwrajsinh was the elder of the two brothers and his father Kishoresinh works as a bus conductor with Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation. After passing class 10 from Rajkot, he took admission in ITI last year.
Harvijaysinh's father Sahdevsinh is a farmer. The families belong to Gundi village near Bhavnagar.
