Agra: A van ferrying 16 students fell into a ditch in Etah district on Friday after hitting a padestrian who was crossing the road.

The unidentified pedestrian succumbed to his injuries at a hospital during treatment.

The accident occurred at around 7am near Aaspur village on NH-91 under Mahavan police jurisdiction.

Additional superintendent of police Sanjay Kumar said, “Eight students have suffered injuries on head and limbs, but all are safe. Though a pedestrian, who was trying to cross the road, has succumbed to his injuries. We are trying to ascertain his identity.”

A police official, on the condition of anonymity said, “Since most of roads passing via Etah are two lane roads with negligible safety measures, often every day an accident is reported. Majority of the victims are either pedestrian or two-wheeler riders.”

Last year in January month, 12 students were killed after the bus they were travelling in had a head-on collision with a truck on Aliganj-Patiyali highway.
