Rajkot: The standing committee of Rajkot Municipal corporation (RMC) passed a proposal making it mandatory for the hotels and restaurants that generate more than 100 kg waste a day to process it.

The civic body has nominated an agency to process this waste for the bulk waste generators, who don’t have processing facility.

There are nearly 25 such hotels and restaurants in the jurisdiction of RMC that generate over 100kg waste every day. RMC has notified a company that operates mobile processing vehicle and as per the civic body’s regulation, it will charge Rs 8 per kg from hotels and restaurants.

RMC environment engineer Nilesh Parmar said, “This facility is for those hotels which don’t have own processing units and don’t intend to purchase them. The rules will be extended to party plots and social function organizers in the near future.”
