Section 144 clamped in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: A day before the arrival of the massive Sankalp Yatra rally against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, police on Thursday clamped prohibitory orders in the city and the outskirts.
The Sankalp Yatra, launched by the Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS with 70 other ethnic organizations, is a bike rally flagged off from four corners of the state - Sadiya, Diphu, Jonai and Dhubri - on Sunday. The rally is set to reach here on Friday and the protesters plan to lay siege to the Secretariat in Dispur. With Section 144 in place, protesters are likely to be stopped at the city's entry points. Assam Police chief Kuladhar Saikia said district police have been alerted and stern action would be taken against law violators.
