Robert Kubica Could Get Return To F1 As A Williams Driver Or A Ferrari Tester

Robert Kubica has allegedly been offered a drive from Williams for the 2019 Formula 1 season, and could soon announce his comeback as a full-time F1 driver.

Motorsport reports that Kubica is a strong contender to replace rookie Sergey Sirotkin and race alongside youngster George Russell next year.

Interestingly, it’s not just Williams that would like to get the services of the Polish racer. Ferrari is said to be keen to recruit the services of Kubica to spearhead its simulator program after losing the services of both Daniil Kvyat and Antonio Giovinazzi for the 2019 season.

Kubica says he is likely to come to a decision about his future within the coming days.

“I think we are quite close to the decision. From my point of view I’m getting there, and I have a deadline very soon, in my head let’s say. It will be within a few days, what I decide, what I want to do, and what I think is the best direction for me.

“I’m in a comfortable situation, and this is what I’ve been saying for a few weeks. I will be doing something which in one way or another attracts me, and gives me the confidence that I will be doing something that I enjoy”.

While Kubica has been outspoken about his interest in landing a full-time F1 drive, he did admit that working with Ferrari is very appealing, even if it is limited to simulator work.

“I said always when you are a small child you dream about F1, then you once you are established as an F1 driver there are two things, either you win championships, or you drive in the red car.”

This time last year, Kubica was a firm favorite to get a drive with the Williams F1 team alongside Lance Stroll. However, the team selected Sirotkin instead, with Kubica named as the squad’s test and reserve driver.
