Viraj Deshpande | TNN | Nov 17, 2018, 03:08 ISTNagpur: Cops from Ajni police station had to scrutinize footages from around 72 CCTVs installed on a 9km route to nab two accused within 48 hours after a burglary was reported.
Cops were investigating the theft that occurred on Wednesday at the house of Kalicharan Temgere, in which booty, including an LED TV, worth Rs3.30 lakh was stolen. The accused, identified as Afsar Khan and Irfan Khan, are gym trainers who took to burglary to fulfil their dreams of becoming models.
According to sources, police had to connect bits and pieces from CCTV footages from Pagalkhana Square to Timki. Since the cameras installed under Smarty City plan have blurred visuals at night, cops even took help of some of the private cameras installed along the route. The accused, after committing the crime, had avoided main roads to dodge the CCTV cameras installed at various junctions.
During a press conference on Friday, Zonal DCP Nilesh Bharne and senior PI of Ajni police station Shailesh Sankhe revealed that the stolen amount has been recovered. “We have also seized other materials worth Rs6 lakh from the accused. It includes 15 tola gold. The accused have currently confessed to committing only two burglaries but the number is likely to increase,” they said. It is also learnt that before committing the burglaries the accused had shared the plan with their kin. Cops have procured their PCR till November 19.
