Rajkot: Crop failure drove one more farmer to suicide this time in Nagadaka village, about 30km from Sayla town in Surendranagar district on Friday. With this 13 farmers have ended lives fearing crop failure since September this year.
Police said the deceased, identified as Hira Parmar (45), hanged himself to death from the ceiling of his residence.
“Parmar’s brother Dinesh said in his statement that Parmar had been suffering from depression ever since his cotton crop had failed due to poor monsoon, and this drove him to take the extreme step,” said an official from Sayla police station.
Parmar had sunk into depression since past two months. He had done the cultivation on 40 bigha land, but the crop had failed due to deficient rains. On the fateful day, he went to his second house, which is in a dilapidated condition, and hanged self.
