Lieutenant-Governor Anil Baijal on Thursday directed the Delhi Police to train police personnel in soft skills in order to improve the interactions with the public, a statement from Raj Niwas said.
While reviewing the police’s public grievance redressal system during a meeting at Raj Niwas, Mr. Baijal “directed the Delhi Police for training of police officers in soft skills to improve public interface”, the statement said.
Online complaints
During the meeting, which was attended by Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik, the police made a presentation about the written and online complaints they receive through various sources.
The police informed the L-G that every written complaint received gets logged into a digitised complaints monitoring and tracking system, the Raj Niwas said.
The L-G told the police officers that monitoring of complaints on a continuous basis at different levels was required as public grievance redressal was an important part of policing.
“He further stated that focus should be given on handling of the complainants in a judicious and speedy manner. Efforts should be made to resolve all the complaints in time,” Raj Niwas said.
Public facilitation desks
The police officers informed the L-G that a mechanism to address complaints existed at the police headquarters, range, district, sub-division and police station levels. Public facilitation desks had been set up at police stations, the police said.
Mr. Baijal told the police to set up their own online portal for receiving and monitoring complaints.
