A bottle of Aldi Shiraz that costs just $6.99 has won a prestigious award - perhaps proving once and for all that wine lovers don't need to fork out a fortune to enjoy a good drop.
Aldi's 'One Road' South Australia & Heathcote Shiraz 2017 was awarded a trophy for 'Best Medium Bodied Dry Red Wine' at the Sydney International Wine Competition.
For the second year in a row, the $6.99 wine has also taken out the gold prize at the Great Australian Shiraz Challenge, beating expensive drops costing more than $150.

The red wine has been described as a 'medium bodied red' and is 'clean and fruit driven with no sign of wood'.
'The aromas of plum and spice continue on the palate, with ripe and powdery tannins to finish,' the description reads.
And this isn't the first time the wine has received awards after the 2016 Shiraz won gold, beating wines worth more than $350.

Buying director for Aldi Australia Jason Bowyer said the discount supermarket chain are 'honoured to be recognised by such a prestigious show.
'Aldi is delighted by the success we have achieved at the competition,' he said.
Two other Aldi wines also took home prizes during the competition.
The 2017 Blackstone Paddock Limited Release Margaret River Chardonnay, $14.99, and 2016 Blackstone Paddock Barossa Valley Vintage Release Shiraz, $17.99, were awarded Top 100 and Blue Gold medals respectively.
'Winning awards for three of our wines are testament to the excellent calibre of Aldi's Australian suppliers and our commitment to creating quality wines that are great value,' Mr Bowyer said.
'We are absolutely thrilled.'
