Pune: A new video has gone viral on social media showing a police officer threatening the villagers to give in to his demand of filling his pond for irrigation or face the music. The incident happened in Pune district’s Karmala. Sources said police officer Dattatray Madane purchased a piece of land in Karmala, made a pond for water and began to divert the supply water meant for the entire village to his farm. The villagers’ protest irked him so much so that he started to use his might. To get water, he hired a goon armed with a sword and started to terrorise the villagers, and forced them to give into his demand.
A video of the hired goon flashing the sword was captured, which has now gone viral on social media. Notably, there is drought in Karmala district and the residents of Savdi village, who witnessed the episode said, the Karmala villagers were trying to draw water from the Kukdi river. The harried villagers wanted to fill their wells for drinking by drawing water from the river. When Madane tried to steal the drinking water meant for the entire village, the residents protested.
A police officer, requesting anonymity, said, “The video shows a goon with sword threatening the villagers while Madane was instigating the goon, demanding the villagers to give in to his demand. The hired goon threatens them with dire consequences.” The villagers, after the Prahar Sangathana came forward and extended a helping hand, could muster courage to come forward and meet Solapur SP to file a complaint against Madane.
