The engine got detached after lever pin broke, say police

Two persons were killed and four others sustained injuries when the trailer of a tractor plunged into an abandoned well near Gokulapadu area under S. Rayavaram police station limits, in Visakhapatnam district on Thursday.

The tractor with six labourers on board was heading towards Korriprolu from S. Rayavaram.

The labourers perched on the trailer fell into the dry well after the engine of the tractor got detached. The deceased have been identified as P. Sanyasi Rao (45) and P. Arjun (46).

“The engine got detached from the trailer as the attaching lever pin broke, possibly due to over-speeding. The trailer swerved off the road and ploughed into the fields before falling into the dry well,” S. Rayavaram sub-inspector K. Kumarswami said.

Case registered

Noticing the accident, the locals rushed to the spot and retrieved the injured from the well. However, severely injured Sanyasi Rao and Arjun died while being shifted to a hospital. A case has been registered against the driver and investigation is on, the SI added.
