Chandigarh: Murder accused tries to flee from Kharar court premises, arrested

According to the information accused Anuj alias Khan was involved in the murder case of one Rishab in Sarangpur, Chandigarh in 2017. He was presently lodged in Patiala jail in connection with trespassing case which was registered in Nayagaon last year.

High drama was witnessed outside Kharar court complex on Kharar-Chandigarh main highway Friday afternoon after a murder accused fled from police custody during his hearing in a case. The accused, however, was arrested by a PCR party which was present on the security duty near the court.

One man who came to help the accused in his escape managed to flee from the spot. Police initiated investigation after registering a case at Kharar city police station. The court complex is located on the main road.

According to the information accused Anuj alias Khan was involved in the murder case of one Rishab in Sarangpur, Chandigarh in 2017. He was presently lodged in Patiala jail in connection with trespassing case which was registered in Nayagaon last year.

Anuj was taken to the court from Patiala jail. After the court hearing, Anuj was being taken to the jail bus. Anuj pushed the police personnel who was taking him towards the bus and fled towards the bus stand.

Constable Gulshan Khan, who managed to arrest Anuj, said that Anuj’s accomplice was waiting him on a bike near the bus stand and both had planned to flee the spot. He added that he was on security duty with his colleague Parpreet Chandel and they started following Anuj and his accomplice.

”The PCR personnel chased the accused and pushed them, Anuj was arrested on the spot but his accomplice managed to flee from the spot leaving behind his bike which had a temporary registration number,” said Kharar (city) Station House Officer, Inspector Bhagwant Riar.

Riar further said that they booked Anuj under Sections 353 (Assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty), 186 (Obstructing public servant in discharge of public functions ), 224 (Resistance or obstruction by a person to his lawful apprehension ) and 332 (Voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty ) of the Indian Penal Code.

The accused were arrested as the work of road construction was going on otherwise the accused could have fled from the spot.
