MLA tweets to Modi, demands cancer research institute in Ananth Kumar's name

Manglauru: Soon after Union minister of chemicals and fertilizers and Parliamentary Affairs H N Ananth Kumar lost his battle against cancer, a BJP MLA has urged Prime Minister Narendra Modi to open cancer research institute in former’s name.

Belthangady MLA Harish Poonja from the BJP has requested the Prime Minister through a tweet that research institute on cancer is the need of the hour as several persons have lost their battle against the deadly demon.



“Dear @narendramodi ji, We need to scale up the #research on #cancer. We have been loosing friends, family and fellow countryman to this deadly demon. We lost our own Ananth Kumar ji, please start a research institute in his name to do research on Cancer. #KillCancerSaveLife,” (SIC), Poonja tweeted on Wednesday.

The tweet also has evoked overwhelming response from netizens with many people emphasizing the need for setting up of cancer research institute in India. “I will agree & support your best suggestions,....Harish poonja jii,” Ramprasad N S Acharya replied.

Replying to Poonja Pavana Puthige wrote, “Very true. More important is its prevention than cure. Why cancer has become common in our country like US ?.”
Poonja said while there are different types of cancer, some have treatment only in the first phases. “Treatment is possible for cancer only if it is diagnosed in the first stages. However, many get to know about the disease only in the later stages. Hence, I have tweeted with a request for the setting up of a cancer research institute. It will also serve as a centre for research on various other diseases to,” he added.
