NOIDA: A youth was arrested while his accomplice managed to flee as the police opened fire on them as they tried to escape after snatching a car near Parthala Chowk in Noida on Thursday. The arrested man has been identified as Devdutt (20) alias Dev, a resident of Bhangel.
According to Ashish, a resident of Delhi, who was driving his Swift Dzire to Sector 112 at 11.45 on Wednesday night, two persons came on bike and suddenly overtook his vehicle. The accused attacked him and injured him with a knife. The two also threatened him with a pistol. They snatched away the car and forcibly took Rs 2,200 from his pocket.
Rajiv Kumar Singh, circle officer II, said they got the information from the PCR that two criminals snatched a car after injuring the victim with a knife. “We immediately rushed to the spot and tried to stop the miscreants. But the assailants opened fire on the police team and tried to flee. The police returned the fire and Devdutt was arrested after he was shot at on his leg. His accomplice, however, managed to run away,” he said.
On the other hand, family members of Devdutt raised questions about his arrested and alleged that it was a fake encounter.
According to Bimala, mother of Devdutt, her son came from Delhi late at night and she did not cook food. So, he had gone out to buy some food for both of them but he did not return. “The police lodged a fake case against him and shot a bullet on his leg in a fake encounter,” his mother alleged. She also said that her son used to work in a crematorium in Bhangel.
However, the circle officer said that the victim had identified the accused and that Dev himself accepted that he was involved in the crime.
