Sahakarnagar residents hold another rally
TNN | Nov 16, 2018, 04:00 ISTVadodara: Persons who lost their dwellings in a razing drive at Sahakarnagar in Tandalja and are yet to be given alternate accommodation brought out a rally on Thursday. This is the second occasion within a fortnight when the residents brought out a rally.
Those whose houses were razed in Sahakarnagar were promised houses on the same plot where the settlement stood. A scheme was to come up at the site on a public-private partnership (PPP) mode, but is yet to take off.
The civic body had razed 1,428 houses and 75 shops in Sahakarnagar in July last year. Residences for those who lost their homes were to come up on a part of the land and the developer was to use the remaining portion of the land.
The project hit a roadblock when it came to light that a pond exists in maps of the plot where the dwellings once stood. Presently only a small pond filled with sludge exists on the spot as the remaining portion has been filled up over the years. A public interest litigation (PIL) was also filed by a citizen in the Gujarat high court seeking that the waterbody should be maintained.tnn
