Rosa Shruti Abraham realised her heart was not in numbers but in art. Yet she decided to complete her post graduate course in marketing before trying for admission to the Indian Institute of Craft and Design, Jaipur.
“I wanted to complete something I had started and so waited till the course got over before I applied for admission to the Institute. I had tried my hand at pottery and ceramics and had enjoyed the experience. Although I wanted to do textiles, I got admission for ceramics,” says the 23-year-old who is all set to hold her first exhibition of ceramics and glass in the city.

Since Shruti has just finished her course, she does not have a studio and so she had to depend on her sources in Jaipur and artisans she knew. “I designed the pieces and sent that across. They will craft it and courier the pieces to me. There are more than a 100 glass decorations and about 30 to 40 in ceramics,” she explains. The glass decorations are being made in Firozabad in Uttar Pradesh. For her next exhibition, the artiste hopes to make all the artefacts herself. The pieces cost between ₹150 and ₹350 and will be up for sale at Trivandrum Women’s Club on November 17. Contact: 2721664
